BRUSSELS (Reuters) - The European Union has welcomed a declaration by Iran that it is willing to resume dialogue but says talks must focus on Tehran's nuclear programme, according to a letter seen by Reuters.
The letter by EU foreign affairs chief Catherine Ashton responded to a letter sent to the EU on July 6 by Saeed Jalili, Iran's chief nuclear negotiator, in which he suggested talks could be held as soon as September.
"It follows that issues relating to the Iranian nuclear programme must be the focus of our talks, though other subjects ... could also be raised," Ashton wrote.
