US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and her Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov said here Thursday that the row over Georgia would not affect their talks to replace a nuclear arms control treaty.

Clinton said linking tension in Georgia with the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START) amounted to "old thinking" while Lavrov said arms reduction was too important to "make it hostage" to the dispute with Tbilisi.
